Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

Lyons-Newman Consulting is committed to creating and sustaining a consulting practice, workplace, client engagements, meetings, and learning spaces rooted in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. We believe that diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and identities strengthen our work and are essential to advancing social impact.

We oppose discrimination, harassment, and exclusion, including racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, antisemitism, Islamophobia, ageism, and classism.

We do not discriminate against anyone on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, ethnicity, age, national origin, ancestry, citizenship or immigration status, creed, religion or religious practice, disability, height, weight, genetic information, sex or gender (including pregnancy, childbirth, lactation, and related medical conditions), gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital or family status, caregiving status, reproductive health decision-making, military or veteran status, socioeconomic status, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

We strive to design our work and engagements to support meaningful participation and belonging for all participants. This includes proactively considering accessibility in physical and virtual spaces, communication formats, pacing, and facilitation approaches. We welcome requests for reasonable accommodations and will work collaboratively, in a timely, good-faith interactive process, to understand access needs and identify appropriate accommodations.

We are committed to proactively advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. In our work, we:

  • Examine and seek to reduce power imbalances and structural barriers

  • Design our services to be accessible and responsive to different needs and identities

  • Facilitate board, staff, coalition, and other meetings to foster connection, participation,  and belonging

  • Engage in ongoing learning, reflection, and accountability around equity and inclusion

We expect our staff, contractors, partners, clients, and participants to contribute to respectful, inclusive environments and to engage in ways that uphold these commitments.

We approach this work with humility, recognizing that equity and inclusion are ongoing practices rather than finished goals.  We welcome feedback that helps us learn, improve, and do better.
